With 2017 coming to a close, and 2018 rapidly approaching, if you are planning a big event it’s important to think ahead about what will be on trend. The last thing you want is guests to attend your event and think that it’s outdated and passê. This guide is an insight into what we believe will be popular for not only entertainment but also what’s on trend in regards to food and decorations.

Entertainment

Whether you are planning a wedding or a bar/bat mitzvah, digital-based photobooths will be all the rage as we move into the New Year. Digital photo booths allow you to upload pictures to your social media profiles instantly. Guests love posting pictures of themselves having a good time. Make sure to create hashtags specific to your event. Also, live-streaming on social apps for out of town guests that couldn’t make is very popular as well! If you are worried about guests being on their phone the entire time, at least let them make it about your event!

Hot Colors: Purple & Copper

Especially for weddings and bat mitzvahs, shades of purple seems to be making a comeback. The color purple is associated with royalty due to how expensive it used to be to make the dye. For those who want a regal and classy feeling, this color is easy to incorporate. With so many shades of purple, your florist should be able to find an appropriate flower with a shade of purple for your event. And don’t forget that purple can always be incorporated into the dress whether it’s for the bat mitzvah girl or the bride/bridesmaids.

For more rustic weddings and even bar mitzvahs, hints of copper seem to be also making an appearance. It’s also easy to incorporate into your decorations especially with anything metal like candle holders, cutlery, and furniture. Copper coins can be a unique take home for either your wedding guests or bar mitzvah patrons, especially if you have them customized. Also, copper statement balloons are also on trend. Don’t forget that copper can be added into clothing as well such as buttons or ties.

Food: Dessert Passarounds

The traditional plated dessert has been out for a quite a while. In 2017, we saw the rise of dessert buffet tables. However, as we move into 2018 the pass around dessert will be the hottest trend. Think about this: guests do not sit and eat dessert if they are up dancing and moving to the grooving of your awesome band or DJ. With that being said, the pass around dessert is surely the way to go. While your guests are living it up on the dance floor, the wait staff carries mini desserts similar to that of cocktail hour. Popular dessert pass arounds are:

  • cake pops
  • chocolate covered strawberries
  • mini churros
  • cotton candy
  • cookie assortment
  • fruit skewers

Speak to your caterer to see if they have a pass around dessert option. Also make sure that you see how the dessert is plated so it’s easy to eat! The whole point is to keep your guests dancing and not leaving the dance floor to go to their tables!
